TLDR
What's the best App Store screenshot generator for a solo developer on a budget? One you pay for once that already exports every store size. ListingShots and Rotato are one-time purchases; AppScreens, Previewed Pro and Screenshots.pro bill monthly or yearly. Pick Rotato for 3D video, AppScreens for a team workspace, Screenshots.pro for a free start.
Every roundup of the best App Store screenshot generators that ranks today is written by one of the vendors, and most leave out the prices. This one prices all nine tools from their own pricing pages, says which ones you can buy once and which run on Windows, and is fair about where each one beats ours.
What's the best App Store screenshot generator for a solo developer on a budget?
"Budget" is the word that decides this, and it is easy to measure wrong. A tool at $8.25 a month looks cheaper than one at $79 once, until you notice the $8.25 is billed as $99 a year and you will still be shipping updates in year three. The useful number is what you pay over the life of the app, not per month.
Three reader types come out of that:
- You ship a few releases a year, alone. A one-time app fits. ListingShots costs $15.99 once and runs on Mac and Windows; Rotato is the one-time pick if you want 3D renders and video and you work on a Mac.
- You refresh screenshots every week, or several people edit. A subscription earns its price: AppScreens and Screenshots.pro are built around shared projects, localization and direct publishing.
- You need one set, once, and spend nothing. Screenshots.pro's free plan or a Figma template, as long as you check the export size first (more on that below).
Nine screenshot tools and what each costs
| Tool | Runs on | Free tier | Paid | One-time option |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AppScreens | Browser | 1 project, 5 screens, no localizations | Pro $25/mo or $99/yr; Scale $50/mo or $180/yr | No |
| AppLaunchpad | Browser | Limited exports, 10 templates | Pro, monthly or yearly | No |
| Previewed | Browser | Unlimited 2D exports at 720p | Pro $19/mo, billed $228/yr | Plus, $9.99 (10 exports) |
| Screenshots.pro | Browser | All devices and templates | Standard $19/mo; Extended $49/mo | No |
| Screenhance | Browser | 3 exports a month | Pro $12/mo or $99/yr; Teams $24/mo or $199/yr | Launch Pass, $6 (7 days) |
| Rotato | Mac (macOS 11+) | None listed | n/a | $79, $89 or $199 |
| Figma | Browser, Mac, Windows | Starter plan | Professional from $16/mo per full seat | No |
| fastlane frameit | Command line | Free, MIT licence | n/a | n/a |
| ListingShots | Mac (Apple silicon), Windows | None | n/a | Yes, $15.99 |

One-time purchase or subscription
The cost over three and five years
The chart adds up the yearly price of two popular plans against a single ListingShots licence. Neither subscription is unreasonable on its own; the gap comes from paying for months in which nobody touches the screenshots.

ListingShots, bought once
Monthly billing costs more again. AppScreens Pro is $25 a month on its monthly plan, so twelve months of it is $300, three times the yearly price. If you only need the tool for a single release, a month of a subscription can be the cheapest route: AppScreens says you can cancel the renewal and keep the features until the end of the paid month. That works for one release. It stops working the third time you resubscribe to change a caption.
The one-time options compared
Four tools let you pay once, and they are not the same deal:
- Previewed Plus, $9.99. Ten exports at 1080p or higher, with 3D and video. Ten exports is less than one full set if you ship iPhone and iPad in two languages, so treat it as a trial with a commercial licence.
- Screenhance Launch Pass, $6. Ten watermark-free image exports over seven days. Good for one tight deadline; after a week you are back on the free tier.
- Rotato, $79 to $199. A real perpetual licence for a Mac app, with 6 months of updates on Basic and 12 months on Standard ($89) and Premium ($199). It is a 3D mockup and animation tool rather than a store-size exporter, so you still lay out captions and sizes yourself.
- ListingShots, $15.99. A desktop app for Mac and Windows with presets for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Google Play and Microsoft Store slots, and PNG export at each slot's pixel size.
Screenshot makers that work on Windows
Most screenshot tooling assumes a Mac, because most iOS developers have one. If you build an Android or Windows app, or a cross-platform app from a Windows machine, the choice narrows to a browser tab or a native app. A browser tool is fine until you want to work offline or keep unreleased UI off someone else's server; then a desktop app is the only route. Figma lists desktop apps for macOS and Windows, but you build the store sizes yourself.
The tools, one by one
AppScreens
A browser tool built for volume. Pro is $25 a month or $99 a year and covers 50 saved projects, 10 apps and 80+ locales; Scale is $50 a month or $180 a year with unlimited apps and an extended licence for client work. Paid plans can publish straight to App Store Connect and Google Play. The free plan allows one saved project with five screens and no localizations.
Better choice when you localize into many languages or ship for clients. Falls short if you want to pay once: its FAQ says it uses monthly and annual subscriptions only. A head-to-head is planned in AppScreens vs ListingShots.
AppLaunchpad
The best-known browser tool. Its pricing page lists a Free plan with 10 templates and limited exports, and a Pro plan billed monthly or yearly with unlimited exports, 1,000+ templates, AI translation and up to 100 projects. The big template library is the reason to pick it.
Better choice when you want to start from a finished design and change the words. Falls short if you want a one-time licence; there is none. The cost comparison is in AppLaunchpad vs ListingShots, and the wider field in AppLaunchpad alternatives without a subscription.
Previewed
A browser tool with 3D scenes and video next to flat screenshots. Lite is free with unlimited 2D exports at 720p; Plus is $9.99 once for ten exports at 1080p or higher; Pro is $19 a month, billed $228 a year, with unlimited exports and 60fps video.
Better choice when you want a 3D hero shot or a promo clip from the same tool. Falls short on the free tier's resolution, which is below Apple's sizes. The five-year cost is worked through in Previewed vs ListingShots.
Screenshots.pro
A browser editor whose free Basic plan includes all devices, all pre-made templates and smart export for all sizes. Standard is $19 a month with 3D angles, custom fonts and localization; Extended is $49 a month for client work. Annual billing saves 35%.
Better choice when you want the most you can get for nothing. Falls short once you need localization or your own fonts, which are on the paid plans.
Screenhance
A browser tool that does screenshots, mockups and short demo videos. Free gives you three exports a month, the Launch Pass is $6 for ten clean exports over seven days, Pro is $12 a month or $99 a year, and Teams is $24 a month or $199 a year for three editors.
Better choice when you need a launch set and a demo video together. Falls short if you export often on the free tier: three a month is less than one set.
Rotato
A Mac app for 3D device mockups and animations, sold once: $79, $89 or $199 depending on the tier, with 6 or 12 months of updates. It needs macOS 11 or newer.
Better choice when you want animated 3D renders for a launch video or a website. Falls short on Windows, and on store-size layout: it makes the device shot, not the captioned set. More in Rotato vs ListingShots.
Figma
A general design tool. The Starter plan is free; a Professional full seat starts at $16 a month. Community templates for store screenshots are free to copy.
Better choice when your designer already lives in Figma and wants full control. Falls short on store sizes: you set every frame by hand and export each one, and a template built for last year's devices is your problem to fix. See Figma vs ListingShots.
fastlane frameit
A free, open-source command-line tool (MIT licence) that puts device frames around iOS, macOS and Android screenshots with one command, with optional titles and backgrounds. It relies on ImageMagick.
Better choice when screenshots are generated in CI and must be rebuilt on every release. Falls short for anyone who wants to see the layout while editing: there is no visual editor. The setup is covered in fastlane snapshot and frameit.
ListingShots
Our app: a desktop canvas of rows and frames sized by store presets, with images, shapes, text, 2D and 3D rotation, gradients and shadows, exported as PNGs at the exact pixel size of each slot. It runs on Apple silicon Macs and Windows x64, works offline, and costs $15.99 once.
Better choice when you want every store size from one project and no renewal. Falls short in several places, and you should know them before buying: no video or animated previews, no custom font upload, no cloud sync or shared editing, and no 6.9-inch preset yet (for 1320 × 2868 you set a custom size). If you need any of those, one of the tools above is the better pick. The offline angle is on the offline App Store screenshot generator page.
Check the free tier against the store sizes
Apple's screenshot specifications accept 1260 × 2736, 1290 × 2796 or 1320 × 2868 pixels in portrait for the large iPhone class, and 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732 for the 13-inch iPad. You upload one to ten screenshots per size as JPEG or PNG, and if your UI is the same across devices you only need the highest required resolution: App Store Connect scales it down for smaller ones.
Google Play is looser: at least two screenshots, up to eight per device type, JPEG or 24-bit PNG without alpha, each side between 320 and 3840 pixels, and the long side no more than twice the short one. The feature graphic is 1024 × 500.
So the test for any tool, free or paid, takes two minutes. Export one frame at the size you plan to upload, open it, and read the pixel dimensions. If they do not match a size in our App Store screenshot sizes table, the tool is not free for your purposes.
How to pick in five minutes
1
How often do you change screenshots? Weekly: a subscription pays for itself. A few times a year: buy once.
2
Do you need video or animated 3D? Yes: Rotato on a Mac, or Previewed in a browser. No: any of the rest.
3
Does more than one person edit, or do you localize into many languages? Yes: AppScreens or Screenshots.pro. No: a single-user app is enough.
4
Do you work on Windows? Yes: a browser tool, Figma, or ListingShots. Rotato is out.
5
Before paying, export one frame and check its pixel size against the store you ship to.
If the answers come out "a few releases a year, still images, just me", the tool you want is one that knows the sizes and does not bill you between releases. That is the case ListingShots was built for. Windows users get a longer walk-through in the App Store screenshot maker for Windows guide.

Frequently asked questions
Four sell a one-time option. ListingShots (Mac and Windows) and Rotato ($79 to $199, Mac only) are perpetual licences. Previewed Plus is $9.99 once but covers only ten exports, and Screenhance's $6 Launch Pass covers ten exports over seven days. AppScreens, AppLaunchpad and Screenshots.pro are subscriptions only.
All the browser tools do: AppScreens, AppLaunchpad, Previewed, Screenshots.pro and Screenhance. Figma has a Windows desktop app. ListingShots runs natively on Windows x64. Rotato is Mac-only and needs macOS 11 or newer.
Screenshots.pro's free Basic plan includes all devices, templates and smart export for all sizes. Figma's free Starter plan works if you set the frame sizes yourself. Previewed's free plan exports at 720p, which is smaller than Apple's iPhone sizes. Whatever you use, export one frame and check its pixel size first.
No. AppScreens, AppLaunchpad, Screenshots.pro and ListingShots all cover both stores. Google Play accepts JPEG or 24-bit PNG between 320 and 3840 pixels per side, and needs a 1024 × 500 feature graphic, which ListingShots has a preset for.
Usually, yes. AppScreens says you can cancel the renewal and keep the features until the end of the billing month, and AppLaunchpad says you can cancel at any time. For a single release, one month of a monthly plan can be the cheapest route; for several releases a year it adds up.
